Earthquakes jolt Mentawai, Manokwari - Earthquakes measuring 5.5 and 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Mentawai of West Sumatra and Manokwari of West Papua on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency
(BMG) reported Tuesday.

The epicenter of the West Sumatra quake was 68 kilometers southeast of Pagai Selatan Mentawai, 19 kilometers below sea level, reports. The quake was felt as far away as Bengkulu by residents of Muko Muko.

The epicenter of the Tuesday quake that hit Manokwari and surrounding areas including Fakfak and Kaimana was 139 kilometers northwest of Manokwari at 20 kilometers below sea level.

Neither earthquake caused tsunamis.
