Jayapura: The police in Papua are still investigating the killing of Opinus Tabuni, who was shot dead during an event to celebrate World Indigenous People's Day on 9 August last year.

Earlier, a member of the legal team acting on behalf of the victim's family, Latifah Anum Siregar, raised questions about what was being done to investigate this case. She said that the police ought to be able to proceed with their investigations, having already said that the bullet that killed Opinus was not a bullet from a firearm belonging to the police.

According to Drs Bambang Rudi Pratikny of the police criminal investigation team, they were currently questioning expert witnesses. He said that the bullet did not hit the victim but ricocheted and it was nothing more than a fragment. [So, what was the cause of death?]

He told Cepos that they were facing difficulties finding evidence and witnesses who could testify about what happened. So far, they had carried out ballistic tests and were comparing weapons and ammunition that might have been used.
