Papua Police chief Gen. Bagus Eko Danto has confirmed that only one member (not two as earlier reported) of the Police Mobile Brigade was wounded in another gun fight against an unknown armed group near the PT Freeport Indonesia's Grasberg mine in Papua on Wednesday afternoon.

Bagus told reporters that the officer was treated at a clinic in Kuala Kencana district, but did not give further details.

A source inside the police said officers came into contact with the armed group, believed to be responsible for a series fatal of shootings over the weekend, while combing the area near the mine at around 2:30 p.m. local time (12:30 p.m. Jakarta time).

Police officers were deployed to investigate and secure the area following shootings that killed three people –including an Australian national—and injured seven others over the weekend.

Bagus and Secretary to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Maj. Gen. Romolo Simbolon, and a team from the ministry, who have arrived in Tembagapura following the incidents, said they would hold a press conference about the latest situation in Papua later in the evening.
